What’s your #BHAG2012?
19 Dec
Do you want to set an awesome, life-changing goal for 2012?
Why not make your goal Big, Hairy and Audacious?
That’s what BHAGs are all about, and you’re invited to join a community of creative entrepreneurs everywhere to help you realize and achieve your goal.
What’s a BHAG?
The term Big Hairy Audacious Goal (“BHAG“) was proposed by Jim Collins and Jerry Porras in their 1994 book Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies.
“A true BHAG is clear and compelling, serves as unifying focal point of effort, and acts as a clear catalyst for team spirit. It has a clear finish line, so that you and other team players know when they’ve achieved the goal.”—Collins and Porras
Although the BHAG was invented for large organizations, the DIY Business Association is taking a new approach—the BHAG for entrepreneurs, startups and individuals who want take a project to the next level.
After all, we’re living in the Entrepreneurial Age.
Examples of large organizations’ BHAGs:
Twitter: To become “the pulse of the planet.”
Amazon: Every book, ever printed, in any language, all available in less than 60 seconds. Also: Earth’s most customer centric company.
Disney: Build Disneyland—and build it to our image, not industry standards. To be the best company in the world for all fields of family entertainment.
Google: Organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
Microsoft: “A computer on every desk and in every home.”
