We’re planning the DIYTogether Movement
28 Sep
We feel pretty good about saying that Phase I of the DIY Business Association’s development is wrapping up right around now (fall 2011).
We’ve learned a ton about the creative, entrepreneurial community since we started in February 2011. We hosted our first all-day conference (the Brooklyn DIY Business Association Conference) on June 26 and a Micro Conference (Get Funding ASAP!) at the Loosecubes HQ on September 1.
Now we’re making big plans for 2012. We’re sooooo ready and excited, but we know we need to simmer down and get some things in order.
At this very moment, we’re in the thick of developing a new movement called DIYTogether, set to kick off in 2012. DIYTogether is all about empowering and connecting a new generation of workers—because it takes a community to do it yourself.
DIYTogether Mission: DIYTogether connects people to create collaborative communities and build sustainable, profitable work opportunities.
Why is this movement needed? Seth Godin nails it in “The Forever Recession.” He writes, “The future is about gigs and assets and art and an ever-shifting series of partnerships and projects.”
We can’t spill details about DIYTogether just yet, but we can tell you that we’re gearing up for a national tour of events that will start in the second half of next year.
We’re also developing:
• A social-media 2.0 Web site (www.diytogether.biz) for entrepreneurs to connect, share and build ideas, projects and businesses
• BYOB Stations (to help you Build Your Own Business and Be Your Own Boss)
• DIYTogether Incubator programs to help you grow your business
• Wifi Worker, a mobile app that helps workers on the go find the nearest reliable places to work, including Internet cafes, parks, libraries and restaurants.
