How to participate in a Twitter chat
1 Dec
Are you a first-time Twitter chatter?
No problem. The DIY Business Association is here to help…
Twitter Chat Directions
1. Go to Tweetchat.com, a site that helps people participate in Twitter chats.
Tweetchat makes it much easier to follow a Twitter chat, because it only posts tweets that use a designated hashtag of your choice.
2. Sign up for a Tweetchat account, using your Twitter handle. (That’s the thing with the “@” before it. For example, the DIY Business Association’s Twitter handle is @diybusiness).
Once you have linked it with your own Twitter account, enter the hashtag #diychat. If you tweet from Tweetchat.com, you won’t have to type in #diychat each time you want to tweet—Tweetchat will automatically do it for you.
Twitter Chat Tips
1. If you choose not to use the Tweetchat.com feature, make sure to follow me at @KbyeSuz so you can see my questions and include #diychat in all your tweets.
2. Learn Twitter terms.

3. Practice and prep your Tweets.
There’s an art to Twittering, because you have to be as communicative as possible in 140 characters or less. If you want to be armed and ready with answers to #diychat questions, prepare them in advance so that you can ensure they’ll fit into 140 characters or less.
You can converse with the other #diychat participants by using @ mentions and their Twitter handles.
4. Promote your participation.
Before #diychat begins on first Thursdays of the month at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, we recommend that you invite friends, fans and followers to participate in the Twitter chat.
Spread the word on your Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages. Here’s a script you can use:
