Event recap: Personal Brand as Storytelling for Artists
8 Dec
“We’re living in the Age of the Artist as Entrepreneur.”
That was one of the key points that DIY Business Association Founder Amy Schroeder talked about on December 6, 2011, at CUE Art Foundation in Manhattan.
Schroeder co-presented with Kara Szalkowski, the former Marketing Director of ReadyMade, the magazine about “Instructions for Everyday Life.”
Szalkowski (soon to be DIYBA’s Chief Marketing Officer) and Schroeder are developing the DIYTogether Movement to connect creative entrepreneurs to build a collaborative economy.
On December 13, 2011, Schroeder will present the second portion of “Personal Branding (aka Storytelling) for the Artist With Integrity” at CUE, located at 511 West 25th Street, in New York.
Schroeder (also the founder of Venus Zine) will co-present with Alex Miles Younger, the art director of The Domino Project, founded by Seth Godin in conjunction with Amazon.

Kara Szalkowski, former ReadyMade Marketing Director, talked about how artists can develop their personal brands and gain widespread exposure by working with big brands. Among the artists she talked about was Cheeming Boey, whose work was featured in a Sharpie campaign. Visit Boey's site at http://iamboey.com/.

After Amy Schroeder and Kara Szalkowski presented at CUE Art Foundation, the audience of artists and creative entrepreneurs discussed these questions: "What's your story? What do you want to be known for?"
