#diychat 1 feed (December 1, 2011)

3 Dec

Did you miss the first #diychat for creative entrepreneurs everywhere?

That’s totally AOK, because you’re invited to participate in the next #diycat on Thursday, January 5, 2012, 7–8 p.m. EST.

#diychat 1 was co-hosted by members of the first official DIYTogether Group, a tribe of creative entrepreneurs, filmmakers, designers, writers, friendly fashionistas, business developers and many more. The DIY Business Association is working strategically with this group to help develop diytogether.biz, a professional matchmaking community site that launches in 2012.

For the next #diychat, we’re talking about our goals for 2012. Do you have goals that you need help with? Join us on Tweetchat on January 5. RSVP for the chat here on Facebook.com/DIYBusinessAssociation, and read the DIY Business Association’s tips for “How to participate in a Twitter chat” here.

#diychat 1 Highlights

@SusannahTasanee: RT @amyschroeder: “It is the long history of humankind—those who learned to #collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed.” —Darwin

@FriedaKlotz: I’m a journalist & writer in the (very) early stages of plotting a second book project.

@SDulai: I’m working on a doc project on Gen Y with @amberjadams. Also looking for gigs and projects to collab on, hollar!

@nicolebrydson: I’m the Director and Creative Strategist @Misfit_Media, founding editor & publisher of @bklyntheborough and jill of all trades

@diybusiness : The key of collaboration is balancing your strengths with others’ strengths. That’s how DIY business works.

@sammydavis22: When I collaborate, if there is no exchange of money involved, I make it about an exchange of promo for service.

@FeministGolzar: @sammydavis22 i love collaboration of services vs. money – reduces pressure and keeps things moving!

@erinmharris: When economy is bad, ppl seem to think creatives just “make it pretty.” In truth, that’s when they need us even more.

@erinmharris: Comp can include money and/or exchange of services. Make sure you’re valuing your own work appropriately or no one else will either

@SDulai: I find best collabs are those I can travel w/, if we don’t want 2kill eachother after a month, then I make docs w/ em

@helterskellter: Letting go of certain ideas in order to foster balance isn’t an easy dance to learn.
